Alberta Golf (Ponoka) – 2-time Alberta Open champion Riley Fleming of Airdrie added a third Alberta Open trophy on a hot day at Wolf Creek Golf and RV Resort but it wasn’t easy.
(Above...Riley Fleming tees off on the 5th hole on the Links Course at Wolf Creek. Fleming took home his third Alberta Open title earlier this season.)
Fleming started the day with a 5 shot lead on 2019 champion Andrew Harrison, but after the Camrose product went 4 under on his first 5 holes the lead was gone and they were tied.
Fleming used an eagle chip in on the 8th hole and birdie putt on 11 to get a 4 stroke lead and he never looked back winning by 6 strokes over Harrison.
The Alberta Open presented by SVR Lawyers has a purse of $30,000 and Fleming collects $8,000 for the victory, Harrison $5,000 for 2nd and 6-time champion Wes Heffernan $3,450 for 3rd.
Braden O’Grady from Edmonton won the amateur portion of the competition with rounds of 68, 71 & 73. As the low amateur, Braden wins The Morse Cup and gets a spot in the 2022 Pac Coast Invitational.
